When
you show your Lionheads you will need to supply a clean copy of the standard.
Just because the breed has been around awhile the judges are NOT required to carry
a copy of the standard and most will not. It is the exhibitors responsibility
to supply the Standard the day of the show.
When Arden Wetzel failed
his 2nd attempt at his second Presneation level he lost his COD rights. THe
right to present the Lionhead breed then passed to the next name on the list
- Gail Gibbons. She will make her first atttempt to present in Kentucky at
ARBA Convention in 2008. A printable
version of the Gibbons standard can be found on the left. You
can turn in your copy of the standard when you make your entry. That gives the
show personal time to give it to the judge so they can look it over before hand
if possible. Always have an extra copy with you as you go up to the table,
in case the standard you turned in that morning has become separated from
the remarks card. Having a Standard when you go up to the show table avoids
delays.
This means a standard with no advertisements or or personnel identification attached.
We recommend you use the Standard with all the current COD Colors when you show.
This is permissible as explained by Tex Thomas, who was the chairperson of
the ARBA Standard Committee, in Domestic Rabbit Magazine (Feb. 2006).
You
may have local ARBA shows which will not allowLionheads to show, that is within
their rights as hosting show until the breed has passed a showing again.
Because Lionheads are NOT A RECOGNIZED ARBA BREED you will not be allowed
to bring your Best in Breed winner up to compete for Best in Show. You will
also NOT be given a Grand Champion leg even if the Lionhead entry met the requirements
to have one issued. Lionheads will only be able to earn Grand Champion legs
and compete for Best IN Show until after the breed is recognized. It
is fun to show and many of us throughout the United States have been doing it
for a number of years. The North American Lionhead Rabbit Club runs a fun
SWEEPSTAKES
for BOB and BOS winners. They also have divsions by color and district.
The NALRC currently counts its sweepstakes on all current COD color wins.
We
currently keep a WINNER'S
PAGE here on the Lionheadrabbit Website, where we post
BOB and BOS photos of winning Lionheads. So be sure and send us photos of your
winners! PAST
HISTORY of the LIONHEAD STANDARD The Lionhead Standard has evolved
slowly from the original Wetzel Standard. In the beginning the same basic
standard was submitted by all of the holders of Certificates of Development for
the breed. If you are interested in seeing that old standard there is a link to
the left. There
are a number of standards other then the one that have been approved by the ARBA
Standards Committee. Even in the past it was senseless to show and breed under
any of the many other standards you may find on the Internet. If you are breeding
to a standard that has a4 pound top weigh your whole breeding program will
be geared towards rabbits that do not meet show standards in the USA. It simply
makes the most sense to breed to the correct standard in the first place.
So
enjoy! and remember win or loose it is all for the love of the breed. As the
NALRC club is found of saying "Join Us the Fun is Just Beginning " |
